Monkey & Parrot in the Carnival of Puerto de la Cruz!

Declared of international tourist interest, the Carnival of Puerto de la Cruz is one of the most traditional and relevance of the Tenerife island. Each year its spirit takes over locals and visitors, which are easily integrated into the party. Masked balls, parades, galas and other unusual events such as the traditional rally of vintage cars, the fun run “Mascarita ponte el tacón” or choosing drag queen are the acts more relevants of the program.

In Puerto de la Cruz, the party begins with the choice of their child and adult queens in a show where participate troupes, bands and other groups. The opening parade started the Carnival in the street which doesn’t end until Sunday of “piñata”.

On Saturday and Sunday of “piñata” are extra days of celebration after the burial of the sardine that happens the Ash Wednesday and means the end of the parties in the worldwide. The most important act of the “portuense carnival” is the parede which is celebrated the Saturday of “piñata”, called “Gran Coso Apoteosis of the Carnival” in which participate groups across the island.

The coastal city has a close carnival relation with Düsseldorf in Germany. Every year a German delegation comes to Puerto de la Cruz, where other representatives of the local carnival traveling to Düsseldorf on a tradition of over 25 years.
