The wonderful market of Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Island products

Tenerife is an island where the coastline and cliffs look out over the Atlantic Ocean. This magical place offers countless ways to enjoy yourself. Tenerife has a volcanic soul, much like many other islands in this archipelago, but here is where you can see those fiery hot origins most clearly.

Bear in mind that one of the biggest advantages of this island is that you can travel from north to south and explore different and highly varied landscapes in a very short space of time. You can enjoy a holiday of enormous variety without needing to travel long distances.

That’s why we recommend you visit the market of Nuestra Señora de África, where you’ll find stalls selling a bit of everything; a high-quality and varied range of goods and items.

This market dates back to the 1940s. It soon became a very important place for locals and a hub for buying food in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Nowadays, the market is more commonly known as La Recova, with an annexed shopping centre that opens on Sundays and has parking spaces for customers.

At the market of Nuestra Señora de África, you can find local products from the island while trying the most characteristic flavours of Tenerife. This is a great place to buy local products. If you’re not sure what you’re looking for as a souvenir, you can try the best products from the Canary Islands right here, such as the ‘papas arrugadas’ with ‘mojo picón’ or locally caught fish.

We recommend exploring the colourful fruit and flower stalls that you can find in the central courtyard. These stalls fill the market with colour and aroma.

Head over to the Mercado de Nuestra Señora de África at 51 Avenida de San Sebastián in the Cuatro Torres district of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
