Majorca, the best beaches for your holiday | Bahia Principe

This post is also available in: esEspañol (Spanish)

The island will embrace you as soon as you land, whisking you off to the centre of Palma. From your hotel in Mallorca, you’ll have access to the capital of the Balearic Islands and a place that is home to cultural activities, shopping trails, busy bars and terraces, and some of the most iconic monuments from the island’s history. The imposing Cathedral, the Paseo del Borne avenue, the Paseo Marítimo promenade, the local produce and food markets, the parks and urban beaches with their chill-out zones…

Mallorca has secrets you’ll want to keep forever. If you want somewhere to enjoy unique moments, then we recommend a number of coves where the Mediterranean has created havens in which to lie in the sunshine, swim in calm waters and relax alongside cliffs and pine forests.

Playa del Mago y Playa de Portals Vells III - Playa del Rey

These two beaches can be found on the west coast of Mallorca, in the municipality of Calvià. A natural inlet from the sea has formed a small beach with calm waters and white sand. The towns of Santa Ponsa and Magaluf are located nearby.

Playa del Mago and Playa de Portals Vells III are very well protected from the wind and rough seas. The beach is surrounded by lush vegetation, pine forests and bushes that offer some nice shade on the hottest days.

Playa del Mago is officially listed as a nudist beach. However, if you want to enjoy the non-nudist beach, you will find Playa de Portals Vells III (Playa del Rey) to the left of Playa del Mago. Both beaches are quite small, so there is not enough room for large crowds to gather. We therefore recommend going early to get a good spot.

A path leads away from Playa del Mago that will take you to the nearby beaches of Cala Portals Vells and Caleta de Portals Vells in just a few minutes.

Cala Portals Vells y Caleta de Portals Vells

Cala Portals Vells is famous for a cave that is open to visitors called “La Cova de La Mare de Deu”. There is no other cave like it on the island. You can visit the cave by following a path along the seaside cliffs. The cave has three entrances and was once a sandstone quarry. The stone blocks taken from this quarry during the 14th and 15th centuries were used to build the cathedral in Palma and the church of Santa Eulàlia. A number of altars have also been sculpted from the rock inside the cave and are linked to an old fishermen’s legend.

These two beaches can be found in incredible natural surroundings with a spectacularly beautiful landscape. Remember that this area has been included on the list of Natural Areas of Special Interest by the Balearic Islands Parliament and is also a European Union Special Bird Protection Area.

Mallorca is a destination for everyone. Here you will find plenty of ways to enjoy your trip: whether you’re looking for adventures in nature and outdoor sports, whether you like Mediterranean gastronomy and traditions, whether you prefer architecture and art, or whether you are young at heart and looking to dance the nights away. Whatever you’re looking for, Mallorca will always have a thousand reasons to bask in absolute joy.
