Altos de Chavón
It is a replica of a 16th century Mediterranean village but built in the heart of the Dominican Republic. There you can visit art workshops, a design school or an archaeological museum, as well as its amphitheater, where artists such as Frank Sinatra, Elton John and Alejandro Sanz have performed. Although if you are looking for romance, it is also an ideal place to celebrate your Caribbean wedding.
The beauty of La Romana can also be found under the sea. Its seabed is enjoyed immensely by divers, so do not leave La Romana without trying this water sport and get up close and personal with its coral reefs. Furthermore don’t forget to take a dip in the crystal clear waters off Isla Catalina.
When you think of the Caribbean, you imagine beaches full of white sand and turquoise waters, bathed in the warmth of the sun. Well that’s exactly what you’ll find on Isla Saona, a place you cannot miss if you’re enjoying an all-inclusive vacation in the Dominican Republic. Oh, and do not forget to visit some of its natural hidden caves.
Cave of Wonders
Another of the biggest natural spectacles in La Romana is 25 meters underground. The Cave of the Wonders, formed over more than 100,000 years, it hides diverse treasures, like stalactites and stalagmites, a lake that perfectly reflects the ceiling of the cave, known as the Mirror of the Water, and of course, the 500 wall paintings of different recognizable shapes that were made by the Taino natives.
Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1990, the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo is a journey through the history of the first city founded in America by Europeans.
