The Dominican Republic occupies two thirds of the island formerly known as La Española, the first American land discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1492. It is located in the heart of the Greater Antilles and its classic Caribbean beauty, white sand beaches, coral reefs, charming colonial-style towns and villages, as well as friendly and cheerful inhabitants have made it one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations.
Punta Cana attracts large numbers of tourists from around the world due to its beautiful beaches, tropical climate of warm temperatures throughout the year and welcoming local people. The region is located on the western tip of the Dominican Republic and offers the authentic image of the classic Caribbean postcard: miles and miles of white sandy beaches dotted with coconut palms and lapped by the pristine ocean waters.
Playa Bávaro is considered one of the most beautiful in the world. Its fine sands, turquoise waters and towering palms make evocative landscape. If they added the management and environmental commitment, and respect for and preservation of the natural environment, the result is the distinction of the Blue Flag awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education to the beaches where Bahia Principe hotels is located.
However, the Dominican Republic is much more than sun and sand. It also offers a wide variety of day trips so that travellers can explore the lesser-known spots of this Caribbean island. They can visit unspoilt beaches, go horseback riding or get to know Santo Domingo – capital of the country and the first city to be founded in the New World in 1496 and now recognized as a World Heritage Site.
