Special Saint Valentine’s Day

Saint Valentine aka Valentine’s Day or Day of Love and Friendship celebrated on February 14; is the date when we express love and affection between friends and lovers.

The arising of Valentine’s Day has different theories, some believe, for example that is a Christianized pagan holiday, specifically the celebration of the Greek god Eros that was known as Cupid in Rome and who was honored with gifts and offerings hoping to get love by his divine intervention.

At the time when the Roman Emperor Claudius II decided to ban marriages for young people, this with the idea that without bonds they would be better soldiers, the priest Valentine motivated by such an injustice challenged the Emperor by secretly celebrating marriages of young lovers, Hence he is the patron saint of lovers.

When the emperor found out; hi imprisoned the saint and later on ordered his execution on February 14 of the year 270. In 1840 in North America, Ms. Esther Howland was who commercialized the first Valentine motif cards as forms of heart or cupid.
