Moving Forward Together in Preserving the Environment

Today, May 17th, is World Recycling Day, a day that reminds us how important it is to look after our environment through the recycling of waste. Yes, you read it right – this is possible thanks to the proper management of our own waste.

Grupo Piñero announced that in 2018, its hotel division, Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts, recovered a total of 3,600 tons of recyclable waste. This is a whopping 64{e1693626c2ee3526e60b208faf83d954eda8c9a37cbd38b184b6efe8d0cd1055} increase over last year.

In 2018, Bahia Principe recovered:

* 260 tons of plastic
* 2,500 tons of glass
* 630 tons of cardboard
* 190 tons of metal
* 240 tons of oils
* and 45 tons of hazardous waste.

In all, during the 2015-2018 period, the company recovered 7,870 tons of recyclable waste: the result of improved management of the waste generated not only by Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts, but also by the Group’s Services Services and Travels business units.

We share the words of Antonia del Toro, Grupo Piñero’s Director of Corporate Social Responsibility: “Thanks to the work and experience accumulated in recent years in improving waste management in all the company’s divisions, in 2018 we broke our record in terms of recycling, avoiding the dumping of tons of waste in landfills. The results have been very satisfactory and vouch for our commitment to sustainability: a strategic, transversal and long-term objective aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.”

In 2019, Grupo Piñero plans to implement selective sorting throughout the Group’s office network at the international level: a step forward in increasing the percentage of waste recovered. The company continues to be committed to eliminating single-use plastics by 2020.

Recycling is everyone’s commitment and this result shows that together, we can continue to enjoy paradise sustainably.
